In collaboration with Ahead Partnerships and along with Northern Gas Networks, Murray Masterman, HR business partner, Sarah Wood, employee and engagement manager and Emily Gates, marketing assistant attended the Co-operative Academy in Leeds for ‘making the grade: world at work’ day.

With thirty 10-12 year olds in toe, the volunteers spent a day educating, informing and inspiring children about the world of careers and what some of the responsibilities are of being a grown up!

The activities included an introduction of their roles as well as some mental arithmetic games (beaten hands down by the children!), and a 20-questions style game in which they had to guess the profession.

Feedback from the day was extremely positive as 100% of pupils agreed the activities helped them to think about all sorts of future jobs and 90% agreed the day taught them more about the world of work.

In a school where over 70 different languages are spoken daily, participation has since been described by a volunteer as “powerful, rewarding and well worth it. The games were engaging, the children were good as gold and even the rain held off!”
